Ecobank Uganda Under Grace Muliisa’s Leadership Secures €230 Million Syndicated Loan: A Landmark in Purpose-Driven Financing for Uganda’s Development

Under the leadership of Grace Muliisa, Ecobank Uganda has achieved a historic milestone by arranging a €230 million syndicated loan, one of Uganda’s largest sovereign financings in recent years, to support the country’s infrastructure and development agenda. Acting as Coordinator, Mandated Lead Arranger, and Bookrunner, Ecobank Uganda leveraged the Ecobank Group’s Pan-African network and deep sectoral expertise to mobilize this facility, in partnership with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and FirstRand Bank (through its RMB division). The funds are allocated to transformative projects in healthcare, education, power, road construction, and industrialization, aiming to expand access to quality medical care, reliable energy, modern transportation, clean water, and sanitation.
This landmark deal underscores Ecobank Uganda’s evolution from a niche player to a trusted financial partner capable of leading large-scale, purpose-driven transactions. It validates the bank’s turnaround strategy and positions it at the forefront of impactful financing in Uganda, demonstrating its credibility, competence, and capacity to structure deals that drive community empowerment and economic growth. Beyond the financial figures, the facility is set to deliver tangible, life-changing outcomes, fostering stronger human capital development and regional integration. By collaborating with international institutions, Ecobank Uganda has showcased how multi-institutional cooperation can mitigate risk and maximize societal impact, setting a new standard for purpose-driven financing in Africa.
Under Muliisa’s strategic guidance, Ecobank Uganda continues to redefine its role in Uganda’s banking landscape, proving that a customer-centric, high-performing institution can anchor itself in global flows and digital innovation to deliver solutions that matter—not only to corporates and SMEs but also to the government and communities at large.
